• This book is a must read for anyone trying to improve their game. Hitting balls endlessly on a driving range will, as the authors explain, only make you more proficient on the range. To truly improve on the course, you need to develop the proper mindset in the way you approach the game.
  
  It was a revelation to me to figure out what it was I liked most about playing this game. Sure, I always wanted to beat my best score, but when I really thought about the most enjoyable rounds I've ever had, they were when I was striking the ball precisely the way I wanted to; the score was almost inconsequential.
  
  I used the principles in this book in my very next round and it worked. I started off with two double bogeys and instead of getting frustrated I focused instead on scoring my fairways hit, up-and-downs, etc. before I knew it I was making key shots and not thinking about it. I ended up shooting 43-39, not bad for such a rough start.
  
  I would observe that Jordan Spieth uses some of the techniques in this method, such as looking at the hole while putting, and talking about what he is going to do before a shot. His incredible maturity suggests that he utilizes several of these concepts in his game, including having a game 54 mindset.
  
  In short, this book will help your approach to golf as well as to your life. Get it and see for yourself.
• Although relatively simple as far as golf improvement books, this one worked very well for my wife and me. We play golf together several times per week. Quite frequently it can be pretty easy to get discouraged. Sometimes it seems challenging enough to simply get the ball moving in the direction of the pin, but in actuality the books title says it perfectly. Additionally, many of the drills and mind games make so much sense. Many of us have a decent basic swing. We will however never, ever, challenge for a club plackard, or get our name in lights, but in the end we all have the same goal Get the ball in the hole. And in order to do that, every single shot must have a purpose.
• This is a great book and what I believe the first of its kind!! I was so moved by it that I ended up buying the other 3 books written by Pia and Lynn. I have read almost everything you can think of as far as books on the mental game and many books on the mechanics of the game. I for the first time feel I have direction with my golf game. I also can look back and see how I was a self-defeating and self-fulfilling prophecy with my anger and frustration with this game of golf. The past 2 yrs have been out right horrible and in both seasons I have quit for at least 2 weeks with no intentions on returning but the never ending draw of the game always brings me back. Through this book and their other books I can see my mental faults and most importantly how to attack them. You will not regret getting this or any of the other books if you really want to start enjoying this game. One of the best books I found that really shed light to my problems is the "Managing Emotions". The other 2 books, "Play your best golf now" and "The Game before the Game" are similar but my only corrective criticism is that I don't have enough time as a father of 2 and working full time to try all the activities they recommend. I have no doubt they are worthwhile and I will try to do them on my wed. afternoons off for my 30 min practice sessions.
• A friend lent me her copy of this book after watching me suffering on the golf course. I have a lot of good shots on the course but hadn't done a good job of putting them all together at the right time to score well. After reading it I played a very tough course on a very windy day and the thing was, I wasn't rattled and stayed much more focused and at the end of the day I parred the last three holes in a row! So rare for me to do that in the past. After that I decided to buy my own copy and am marking the book all up so I remember more of the points. So many good tips but mostly it's helped me think right at the right time and play right at the right time. Golf is more fun now. Get it, these are principles that every golfer can benefit from.
• I found this book to be enlightening and thought provoking. Lots of lessons here to practice, most not on the course. I only gave 4 stars until I can apply what I have learned!
• The mental part of golf is the hardest and this is a relatively simple way to look at how you are playing the game. I love the concept of the Think Box and the Play Box. It will take some time to really incorporate it but taking the emotional side out of golf is always a good idea.

• I love the idea of starting a new language as early as possible, and being in San Diego - learning spanish is a must! This little book is not only sturdy and well made, but the designs and content are seriously adorable. It's simple enough that a child would easily learn from it, but also detailed enough to be a good lesson in language. Plus - it's a cartoon Frida, I mean come on!!!
• This unique little book came to me lovingly wrapped in orange tissue paper with a Yogaso Logo sticker and a personally written "Thank you!" from the seller. Love Frida, and will try to pass her story along to my grand daughter. Love this series of informative books with a bit of bio thrown in to make it interesting for children and adults alike. Kudos Yogaso!
• I bought this as a gift for a two year old. Each page features a number and objects to count (such as "dos flores/two flowers"). The pages are bold, colorful, and exciting. This is a great way to introduce little ones to Frida, art, and another culture/language!

• Buy it! I adore this woman and this is a great introduction to her. The pictures are precious and it spells out her life in small ways.

• My 14mo boy likes it. The quality of paper and print are really nice, I would say better than average for board books. I get to teach them the numbers in either language, count with him and talk to him about other cultural things like the Casa Azul, etc. He pays a lot of attention because the graphics and the colors are very attractive. I also have the Cantinflas one from the same publisher and they're both very nice.

On the off chance that you are a specialist, there are some incredible formulas that I haven't found in different books or on the web. There are an allergen list and vegan suppers. There are principle courses, sauces, shakes, sweets and all that you could envision requiring for a keto diet.
• At least for a little while, so that your brain can form the right types of positive associations with the activity you are pursuing. This is why it is better to start off with a meal plan designed to keep you under your carb limit as opposed to winging it as if you try and fail early on, it is less likely that you will pick yourself up and try again
• This book is a great tool to lose weight quickly without serious efforts. At the moment, this book is my favorite book about ketogenic diet. It contains of huge number of recipes of delicious dishes. All information in the book is coherent and clear, so it will be understandable even for beginners. • I wish I read this book earlier. Though I loved math and science I always received middling grades. I was never taught ANY study skills or strategies growing up and just muddled my way through with brute force. I eventually became a science teacher and bought this book to see if I could use it to reach my students better and it opened my eyes not only to good strategies but how the technical parts of our brain even work.
  
  I'm going back to school again for a degree in engineering and successfully achieved a 4.0 this first quarter using these strategies. This would have been completely impossible for me in the past.
•  I LOVE THIS NIGHTLIGHT! I had bought a night light a while back that ended up breaking because of the bad quality of it and I ordered this one in hopes of finding a good high quality projector nightlight at a reasonable price. And without a doubt I found it! This is so cool! I am 23 years old and I would use this! It rotates has many colors and is super bright! This is a durable long lasting nightlight that will be your child’s new favorite toy! This can be used as a nightlight when the top is on and a projector when you take it off. The colors are great and there are different modes you can change it to depending on what colors you want on. I’ve had this for a little over a week and have used it every single night. I will be buying some for my nieces and nephews and I know they will love it and it will be their favorite gift. If your looking for a great gift for your child or a friend or family member with a child then this is the gift that will make them smile! I highly recommend you check this out you will not regret it!
• A Mind for Numbers is written for students of math and science, but Barbara Oakley’s perspective, interviews, and recommendations are very useful for everybody who wants to be a SMART 21st Century lifelong learner. It is a practical book that reflects the best knowledge about how our brains process things – both logically and creatively, from the details up AND from the ideas down. I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn better – or who wants to help a scholar who wants to excel and LEARN in school.
  
  Oakley uses good teaching/learning approaches in this book. It is peppered with stories and even pictures that bring lessons to life. The stories are from very successful scientists – many of whom struggled to learn or were even written off by their teachers. They are stories that say – “persist, be smart about how you learn, and you will succeed.” This, of course, is the learning mindset that is so crucial for discovery and living an unstoppable life.
  
  Oakley also distributes insights about her core topics – building up and reinforcing the key ideas throughout the book. Ultimately, she concludes that 10 practices are critical (she calls them “Ten Rules of Good Studying.” They apply to lifelong learning as well as to learning for school – especially to information and processes you want to remember
  
  Use recall. Don’t just review what you want to remember. Actively pull your insights out of your own brain. This, of course, is a key practice in my Unstoppable You. Oakley offers many reinforcements of this important way to support learning
  
  Test Yourself. This is something anyone can do about any topic you want to remember. For kids it’s flash cards, for adults it might be asking yourself what you know about a topic before a meeting or reading, and then doing it again afterwards.
  
  Chunk information. Organizing ideas and facts into categories, pictures and diagrams, songs, and other mental files can help you remember and understand at a deeper level. Connecting ideas to what you know and to each other creates more neural connections and thus more ways to find what you need when you need it.
  
  Space repetition. Oakley practices this by revisiting and enhancing these 10 rules throughout this book. The lesson is to work on something for a shorter period of time (30 minutes?) and then do something less demanding. When you return to the learning project later, you will be fresher and your automatic system (she calls it your “diffused processing mode”) will have done some undercover work to process your initial learning.
  
  Alternate different problem-solving techniques. She talks about how this works in math – work on equations for a while, then on verbal problems, then do a test, etc. The point is, don’t get stuck on one way of learning something. Get a variety of perspectives – some big picture, some detailed. This “interleaving” is a pretty valuable approach for any topic.
  
  Take breaks. When you are stuck or tired from focusing on solving a problem/learning, stop and do something that isn’t so taxing. Your automatic (diffused) processing will continue to work on the problem unconsciously and you will be able to have a new perspective when you come back to it.
  
  Use explanatory questioning and simple analogies. Try explaining what you are learning in a simple way – preferably to someone else. Tell them what it is “like” (an example she gives if that the flow of electricity is like the flow of water). This more deeply engrains the knowledge in your brain and may get you some clarifying questions.
  
  Focus. This is a very important and often broken rule. It is clear that your brain can’t work on more than one complex problem at a time. So, as many others suggest, turn off the phones, text messaging, loud music, and create a space where you can concentrate.
  
  Eat your frogs first. That is, do the hardest things first when you have the energy.
  Make a mental contrast. This is equivalent to the imagination quality presented in Unstoppable You see where you want to be and compare it the where you are. Let this be motivating.
  
  There are many specific tips and encouraging comments in this book. And for students, there is a lot of good help related to working with teachers, studying with others, dealing with procrastination, taking tests, dealing with anxiety, letting go of the need to be perfect in order to be open to insights and to correct errors in thinking, remembering facts and methods, and more.
  
  Oakley is a very respected educator who came to the sciences by accident when she was in military service. We should be glad that she discovered math and science and became curious about how to be a master learner and teacher in these areas. We all benefit from her perspective, examples, and tips.
• I received this night light really quickly and my kids were really excited about it. It can be used as a nightlight in several colors, stationary or rotating, or, use it as a projector. Simply pull the frosted cap off and it projects all over the room. It is very quiet when rotating. The only thing I would want different is a longer cord. Note that the cord is a USB connection. I haven't tried battery usage. I might have to get another one so both of the kids rooms can have one.
• Dr. Oakley does a masterful job in introducing the science of learning to readers in a way that is very engaging, practical, infectious and liberating. Her work provided me with a functional "User's Manual" to this magnificent gift that I have called my brain. For years I operated under the cloud of misconception regarding my own learning abilities causing me to shy away from many subjects/careers because I thought I was just not good enough. Now, I realize those moments of "confusion" or what appeared to be my inability to grasp a subject, was a result of my uninformed approach to learning and my lack of understanding in how my brain actually processes information (i.e. focused / diffused mode of thinking, chunking and top-down thinking etc..). "A Mind for Numbers" has given me a renewed passion for learning and released my pent up thirst for knowledge and self-actualization. I highly recommend Dr. Oakley's book. It "empowers ordinary people to do extraordinary things" through the power and gift of learning!!!

• We read this for book club, and found plenty to discuss. What I want to say, as a person who teaches immigrants in the US, is that this book is relentlessly negative and depressing, while my experience with immigrants to the US is that they are almost uniformly optimistic. So it's a little hard for me to tell whether that is a real difference between the US and UK immigrant experience, or whether the mood was colored by the interviewer/author himself.
  
  I felt that the book needed a stronger narrative structure, either following a single person through several stages of immigration and culture shock and adjustment, or talking to people who represent those stages. Or maybe even a geographic organizing principle. It felt random, maybe by intent. After a while, it got tedious.
  
  The book did help me understand why the UK voted for Brexit. On the other hand, London itself voted *against* Brexit, while the rural areas voted for it, so this doesn't really explain that fact at all.
• For someone who thinks they are familiar with London this is required reading. Not only does it explain the gradual changes in high street population over the last four decades, but it is a shocking revelation of what is going on behind doors in dilapidated council housing and neglected terraces as well as stylish houses and luxury flats that come with maids and chauffeurs. Russian millionaires guarding their lives, scared Arab boys, and exiled kings of faltering nations all live together in a swirling unreality. Drugs have displaced identity with a vague sense of global society.
• This is a stark account of the immigrant under belly of London and gripping, interesting and pretty grim. I have lived in London for nearly half a century, worked in multi racial manufacturing, and know people of many races spread across the north, east, west and south of the city; and none of the London I know is anything like this. And that really is his point in writing it to uncover what most Londoners don't see, don't understand. The situation of most of the immigrants he covers is pretty depressing, but also in most cases far better than what they would face at home. Hence their willingness to pay a high price to get to the UK. But the cumulative effect if read by someone from the UK provinces or from another country is grossly misleading. The title is inaccurate this is not London. This is an overlooked desperately poor cross section, with a dash of equally depressing lives rich middle eastern globals and their Filipina maids. This is a book about the bottom 10% and should be labelled as such. And London has been drawing in rural poor for 500 years and their situation has usually been equally dire.
  
  When people in the US or in provincial England read the reviews of this book in the Daily Mail, they have all their worst prejudices confirmed. Ben Judah says he had to see it all for himself; which is worthy but he uses statistics very selectively to make his points and his picture is very unbalanced. Take education his only reference to it is pretty dire schools where Asian girls are discouraged by their families from working hard at school and some references to gangs in schools. The reality is that over 60% of children in London schools go on to university and London exam results are better than any other region in the country. In the largely immigrant free West of England only 40% of children go on to university. And London has its share of Afro Carribbean and Asian Tiger Mums and Dads driving their kids performance. Asian girls and boys do far better than average working class white boys in school and in university, tragically for the latter. And yes there is crime but half the murder rate of Glasgow which has far fewer immigrants. And I pick these stats in a selective way just like the author but to provide some counter point to his relentless focus on the downside. Best if you go look at the stats yourselves.
  
  Some more stats 60% of Londoners have university degrees. London generates nearly a quarter of UK GNP with one eighth of its population. 48% of UK growth since the 2008 Crash has been in London. And 55% of Londoners own their own homes, though this is falling because of high prices. And guess what high prices mean someone can afford to buy the property and someone can afford to pay the rents.
• If you are a high empathy person, this will be a challenging read. Makes you stop and think about what small thing you can do to make a difference -- the real payout here.
• Residents and visitors almost inevitably have a view of London, which reflects their day to day experience. Judah provides insights that reveal a London that changed dramatically during the first years of the 21st century. This book should be a 'must read' for anyone wants to have a better understanding of one of the worlds most fascinating cities.
• Harrowing and intense. Made the statistics on immigration look real and makes the causes of immigration as wistful as Dick Whittinton and his cat - full of impossible beliefs and total inability to get out of penury and crime. I left the uk 18 years ago and on my occasional returns to London , I sensed some of this change. Now I realise I saw only the tip of it. Is London beyond a melting pot now?
• Hard to keep up with at times, but gives you an insight into who Londoners are now, not white Cockneys but different ethnicities. Good to read after the Brexit vote.
• Engaging - some of it reads like a good work of fiction, while parts read like a newspaper report either way a great read!

• I've read all 26 reviews so far and I must say that every review is right on the money. I personally was looking forward to a more in-depth psychological look into the mind of Kobe as well as how he trains in the off-season and during the season. Unfortunately this book doesn't give you that. A lot of people called this a coffee book and that's what it is. Now, that's not a bad thing. Pictures are great and the stories are short and to the point to keep anyone interested. However, as a Kobe fan I wanted more 'Detail'.
• This book is not a lap book, its a book you read at a table. ( pic included to compare size) also, this book is a picture book with a paragraph describing the photo. Theres a picture on every page. Its not a normal book like id thought it be.
• Not what I expected. I was expecting a fairly in-depth look at Kobes psychological strengths and habits, but it proved to be more of a picture book explaining the story of Kobe Bryant and what he did on his road to success. With that said, there are a few interesting concepts I enjoyed reading.
  I guess I expected this book to be a Kobe Bryant but instead got a guy throwing a bottle into the trash and yelling "Kobe!" While shooting a fadeaway.

  This is not a typical biography. This is Kobe Bean Bryant talking about experiences albeit good or bad, that shaped his career. The book displays his passion and knowledge for the game. Kobe divulges to you technically/logically. Not persuasive.
  
  It is clearly written, accessable and informative.
  
  Kobe achieved his goal by giving off a broad view of Mamba Mentality that anyone can understand. He fell short in giving die hard fans more to sink their teeth into. For instance he once said to beat Iverson "I studied sharks" this was left out. Interesting concept.
  
  Another example of falling short was not enough literature. Pictures galore. Lastly I want to know what made him Mamba. It's like Batman to dark Knight. Something changed...tell us!!!!!
  
  Compared to similar books this has better photography. Thanks to Andrew Bernstein.
  
  His personal experiences were throughout the book. However some stories could of been expanded. For instance he played with magic...I would like to know how the game went.
  
  I LIKE the pictures and variety of players he matched. All Stars*
  
  I LEAST liked the lack of details and pages. It didn't inspire
  
  I could relate because I'm competitive.... When it's something I want.
  
  I'd recommend. Tho 35 is a bit much. 30 would of been better. Hard copy is best.
  
  A fan of Kobe or lover of NBA legends would buy this. A person who wants to know what competitive edge is should check it out.
• If you're a holistic basketball enthusiast or die hard Kobe Bryant fan, this is the coffee table book for you! You know what Kobe is about and the book perfectly represents his passion for basketball and his meticulous study of his craft.
  As a basketball enthusiast or die hard Kobe fan, you'd appreciate the official Kobe perspective on VIPs in his career and the(/select) thought process behind his approach.
  
  But let me clarify....
  
  Despite the title, what this book is NOT
  
  1. A step by step guide on "Mamba Mentality" aka "How to THINK like Kobe"--if you are a true Kobe (or Jordan fan) for that matter, you know that his level of competitiveness is innate and if you want the inner workings to that, the closest book to it is "Relentless" by Tim Grover (...MJ's trainer)
  
  2. a reference guide to Kobe's mental, fitness and basketball prep--no, this isn't going to be like Tom Brady's TB12 nutrition manual nor Arnold Schwarzenegger's "The Encyclopedia of Modern Body Building" that details what you need to do to physically and nutritionally be at the top
  
  3. an autobiography on Kobe's life--again, coffee table book w/personally selected thoughts on his basketball career
  
  4. a Bible on all things Kobe-- while some coffee table books aim to include all the minutiae a super fan would want , this is not where you are going to find pictures of every single shoe he has worn nor every commercial he has been a part of
  
  "But, but the book mentions 'Mamba Mentality'"....well if you are a Kobe fan, you'd know that it takes more than one book ("magic bullet") to encompass the Mamba Mentality. If anything, the Mamba Mentality is about having incredible self awareness, the willingness to outwork and outstudy everyone else and putting the awareness and willingness into action all the time. It's not that the book is without "Mamba Mentality" but rather it covers the essence of it 100% of the time. He gives you select insight into his thought process on playing against other top players, thoughts/memoirs on people that have inspired him and if anything, the clear notion that he is not going to hand hold any reader on "Mamba Mentality" just because they bought his book.
  
  " I was hoping for a Kobe Bible"....I will have to admit, I would have wanted that too but I have to be upfront that this is not the scope of this book (some other super fan who wants to monetize it can write that book) and from a business perspective, I am sure he realizes that he could sell more than one book about himself. People certainly buy different versions of his basketball shoes, even if one model would suffice for the average joe.
  
  That said, if there is one printed object that encapsulates who the public know as "Kobe Bryant"....this is the book. This is the Kobe book you'd put in a time capsule and share with future (basketball fan) generations.
• The book was not a very good read, it became boring very quickly. I expected it to be motivating, insight to
  struggles that made him a better person. If your in the 5th grade and want to read about basketball this is your book. Waste of money, very disappointed.
• More in depth than a coffee table book. I thought it would just be pictures from a famous photographer. It had that, but also commentary on every picture from Kobe. It will take a couple of nights to get through it all. He has some great words of wisdom.
• I loved this book, and although some people say it’s just a scouting report with pictures, I think it’s much more. I think there are nuances to excellence that make succeeding less mystical and more attainable for average people like myself. I used to think Kobe was this brilliant basketball genius who could dunk on anyone, someone with supreme talent... but after reading about how he scouted his opponents, their tendencies, their rhythms, and how it gave him the edge to know how they wanted to block him... I think it makes work ethic and preparation more glamorous. It gives me confidence in applying the mamba mentality to parts of my life. <3 Kobe.

• When a caller on Science Friday mentioned the book, I immediately bought it, because I like this topic medical oddity. I overall liked the book, though seems overly weighted with stories about strange outcomes of people swallowing stuff and sticking things in places it don't belong. Amusing causal read, but left me with the feeling that there must be better stories than this. The editor should have pushed back on the author for more quality and diversity of case types.
• Liked the interesting case histories chosen. A bit annoyed by author's snarkiness over 18th-19th century medical procedures (like bleeding) that are clearly deemed useless to us now, but were honest attempts to 'do no harm' in their time. (believe it or not, there is one reason to 'bleed' a patient--when kidney and other ailments lead to an excess of red cells that crowd out other blood factors)
• I got this book as an interesting book for a doctors gift and ended up reading most of it myself
• I like Thomas Morris blog that these stories come from. Lots of mysterious medical cases from way back when.
• I kind of enjoyed this book because I like medical history stuff. After a while it gets a bit old. Pretty fun to read what people believed and how "Doctors" dealt with some illnesses/issues.
